Clocks for any Home Décor

Individual tastes are reflected in our choice of home décor.  We have different tastes, preferences and needs.  That’s what makes us individuals.  For centuries, clockmakers have been designing clocks to appeal to those individual differences.  With so many different styles to choose from, it isn’t always easy to select the right clock that will enhance your décor.

The first step to selecting a clock to enhance your home décor is to decide what you’re trying to achieve.  Do you have a wall that needs something to fill space; a fireplace mantel that’s too empty; a recreation area that needs some attention; or simply want to know the time? You get the idea.

Next, consider your surroundings.  The clock should enhance the décor; not detract from the other furnishings or be unnoticeable.  What style are your furnishings? If your home is furnished with all contemporary furniture, select a clock with a more contemporary design; not an antique-style clock.  How much space do you have available?  You don’t want to put a 12” wall clock on a wall that currently is completely bare.  At the same time, you don’t want to select a clock that is too large for the space it will occupy.

Here are a few suggestions:

  1. Instead of a painting, consider a large, decorative wall clock over the fireplace.  Clocks are available in many sizes so, you should have no difficulty finding the right size for your fireplace.
  2. Try a neon clock in the recreation room or, if your rec room has a bar, place a wall clock behind the bar that displays a beer theme.  For example, Guinness has a selection of wall clocks.
  3. Consider adding a clocktail table to the family room.
  4. Is there a collector in your house?  Add a curio floor clock to display collectibles.
  5. If you have an open floor plan, add a double-sided wall clock so it is visible from both directions.
  6. Add a grandfather clock to your foyer.  This is the first room visitors will see.  A grandfather clock adds a certain elegance and warmth to a room.
  7. Arrange several small, round clocks that display the time in different time zones.  You can purchase or make labels that identify the different cities represented.  Alternatively, Howard Miller offers a 25” clock that displays the time for up to five different cities around the world.  The clock is beautifully encased by a wood frame.  Display this clock alone or as the center focal point, surrounded by several smaller wall clocks.  This will surely create a conversation piece.

We’d enjoy sharing your ideas.  If you have a suggestion about how to incorporate clocks into any décor, please send your ideas to decoratewithclocks@xpressionsoftime.com.

Clocks are not all about function.  With a little thought and creativity the right design can enhance any décor.
